The crash occurred around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 on I-84 in the town of Kent when troopers were conducting a traffic stop of a 2005 Nissan sedan for a traffic violation, said Trooper AJ Hicks.

During the stop, a 2006 Mercedes C280, driven by  Aleksandr J. Venticinque, age 24, of Danbury, side-swiped the trooper's vehicle and then slammed into the Nissan.

At the time of the crash, the marked patrol car had all of its emergency lights activated, Hicks said.

The Mercedes rolled over and came to rest in the center of I-84. Venticinque was removed from the vehicle and found to be uninjured, he added.

The Nissan after being rear-ended was pushed off the roadway, all three occupants were injured, and were extricated by Lake Carmel Fire Department.

The operator, Luis Juanacido, 64, and front-seat passenger Edwin J. Villavicencio, 38, both of Danbury, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Danbury Hospital.

The rear-seat passenger Diago Yomeseba, 30, of Danbury, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, Hicks said.

This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone that may have information regarding the investigation is asked to please contact the New York State Police at (845) 677-7300.
